Uhlenbeek lost his place in the side following the loan arrival of Tony Craig last month. With the tricky prospect of an away fixture at fourth placed Leyton Orient, Ryan opted to pack the defence, a tactic rarely used by defence-astute former manager Tony Adams.
Despite trailing 1-0 at the interval, the change proved a success, as Wycombe recorded their first league win since 11th September. Ryan, a midfield player at the club for eleven years also featured in the game for 88 minutes.
"The whole team played with tremendous confidence throughout," he said.
Ryan and Wycombe’s next tests are both against Bristol Rovers, who have hit a lean spell.
The two sides meet in the league at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday ahead of the LDV Vans (south) quarter-final clash at the Causeway next Tuesday.
