Cawley was in charge for the FA Cup win against Coalville Town on Saturday.
He stepped into the role for one game following the surprise resignation of Tony Adams last Tuesday.
Adams former assistant was interested in filling the vacant post himself. However chairman Ivor Beeks stated he intends bringing in a new face.
Beeks has already received several applications for the vacant post, but an appointment isn't expected for two to three weeks.
Beeks also indicated he will revert to appointing a manager with experience, following the experiment of bringing in Adams for his first managerial role twelve months ago.
