Mathieu Manset scored the only goal to dump the Chairboys out of the competition, but Waddock insisted he was pleased with his players' overall performance.
He said: "It wasn't our night - I can't say we played badly because I thought we played very well on the night.
"We just got done with a set-piece and that's the reason why we're out of the Cup. Obviously they've worked on it on the training ground, so credit to them for being able to do that, but from our point of view, players have roles and players to pick up.
"One or two failed to do that and it results in the goal that meant, ultimately, we lost the game.
"I thought our general play was very good first half and we needed to score while we were on top. We hit the crossbar, we worked the keeper but we only hit shots that were right at him - either side of him would have worked better."
