In what seems one of the longest transfer saga's Wycombe have experienced for some time, news has emerged the possible transfer of Tommy Doherty to Wycombe from QPR, has hit the rocks after the player himself is recovering after having his appendix removed whilst on holiday. Thsi is another unfortunate twist in an already bizarre series of events. Initially Doherty joined Wycombe on loan last season and dazzled the fans with a series of hard tackling solid displays, his great performances won him the accolade of player of the season but his farewell game was cut short after a nasty injury after clashing with rookie defender Lewis Christon early on in the home game against Hartlepool United. But nevertheless he has won over the coahing staff and fans at Wycombe who prayed upon the day he would return and wear the fanmous blue and blue quarters again. Work then went under way to bring Doherty to Adams Park in the early pre season, with Doherty himself realising he would have to take a huge cut in wages to join Wycombe he seemed undeterred and wanted negciations to start soon. But QPR, although outcasting him from first team games, were not happy with letting him go on a free transfer even though he had one years contract left. This proved to be a huge area of debate with QPR asking for 100K. It seemed after days on talks that Wycombe had agreed a fee of 50K with QPR and would take him when the player returned from his summer holiday. Only for the sad news he is ill and wont return for the forseeable future as flying is deemed to dangerous in his condition. Wycombe have had to delay the talks with QPR now leaving the door open for other bidders to make there move, like Peterborough who have already expressed an interest in the man that helped Wycombe to a draw at London Road. With Tommy not due back and his injury not looking to be recovered from until early October this leaves Wycombe in a tough place. Do they wait for Tommy to recover and sign a half fit player on loan until January and make his move permanent then? Or do they try and sign him when he returns even though he will be unable to do a medical with the injury? Questions have also been raised about whenther they leave the deal totally and not sign the Ulseterman, but that has been frowned upon by many fans, as they want to see the man they call Jesus return to Adams Park for next season.
