Wycombe V Exeter at Adams Park - Match Preview

Chairboys receive Grant boost

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth will be boosted by the return of striker Joel Grant for the New Year's Day clash with Exeter.

Ainsworth was only able to name six substitutes in the win at Plymouth on Saturday with as many as 11 players missing so the return of the 25-year-old, who has scored seven times this season, will be a welcome one.

Charles Dunne, (foot) Josh Scowen, Dave Winfield and Dean Morgan (all hamstring) missed out against Argyle but Anthony Stewart replaced Dunne for his first start in seven weeks.

Gary Doherty (back) is five weeks away from a return so 17-year-old Kortney Hause will continue at the heart of the Chairboys defence.

Charlton loanee Ade Azeez played last 20 minutes against Plymouth having missed the previous three games with a hamstring injury but his loan spell at Adams Park is due to expire after the clash with the Grecians.

Exeter midfielder Liam Sercombe will miss the trip after suffering a broken ankle in the Grecians' 2-2 draw with Barnet on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who has been a regular in the side for the last five seasons, tweeted the news that he will be in a cast for six weeks and described himself as `gutted' after being told of his ankle break.

The City youth product was taken off after 54 minutes against Edgar Davids' men with the injury and was replaced by Aaron Dawson - who could get the nod to make his third start for the club at Adams Park.

Midfielder Arron Davies made his return from injury as a late substitute and is an option for Paul Tisdale who could also recall top scorer Jamie Cureton.

City have one of the best away records in the division, having won seven of their 11 matches on the road.
