Wycombe V Northampton at Adams Park - Match Preview

Doherty could start for Chairboys

Gary Doherty could start for Wycombe against Northampton after marking his return to action after five months on the sidelines with a goal against Rotherham.

The experienced Northern Ireland international stepped off the bench to nod home the equaliser in the 2-2 draw with the Millers and he looks set to solve their central defensive crisis.

Anthony Stewart could be out for the rest of the season after having an operation on a hand he fractured at Rochdale on Saturday while captain Dave Winfield went off with a hip injury on Tuesday night.

At the other end of the field Matt McClure is a doubt for the clash with the Cobblers after suffering an ankle injury.

The Chairboys are 12 points clear of the relegation zone in npower League Two after losing just one of their last four matches.

Northampton make the short trip with an unchanged squad.

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd must decide whether to make changes following his side's 1-1 draw with Morecambe in midweek.

Leading scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa was rested again at the Globe Arena, coming on as a substitute midway through the second half for the second game in succession.

With Alex Nicholls the only absentee as he continues his recovery from a broken leg, 17-goal striker Akinfenwa is one of many options available to Boothroyd.

Fellow forward Clive Platt and midfielder Lewis Hornby are pushing for recalls after being benched against the Shrimps, while midfielder Luke Guttridge and striker Jake Robinson are also options.

Northampton are unbeaten in their last six visits to Adams Park, drawing four times and winning twice.
