Wycombe 2-0 Stockport- Match Report

Scott Rendell's penalty helped promotion-chasing Wycombe cruise to a comfortable 2-0 victory over rock-bottom Stockport.

Wanderers' top scorer stroked home his 15th of the season to inch them closer towards clinching League Two's second automatic promotion slot.

County were off to the worst possible start when Lewis Montrose slammed Gareth Ainsworth's delivery in off the post after 10 minutes.

Stockport almost made amends for that earlier concentration lapse, but Chairboys goalkeeper Nikki Bull was alert to deny Aaron Brown and Adam Griffin.

And Ray Mathias' men were dealt a hammer blow when Griffin was adjudged to have handled, and Rendell calmly tucked away his third in two games.

With Stockport wounded at half-time, Wanderers went in for the kill and Brown's goal-line clearance was all that stopped Stuart Beavon making it three.

County threatened to respond when Greg Tansey forced Bull to parry his drive but their efforts were in vain as they slipped three points behind Barnet at the bottom of the table.
