Whichelow inspired Wanderers win
New signing Matty Whichelow scored one and created the other as Wycombe came from behind to boost their League One survival hopes with victory over Tranmere.
Rovers appeared well set for their first win of 2012 after Adam McGurk fired them in front with a dipping left-foot shot in the fifth minute, but Wycombe had other ideas.
First Whichelow, a deadline day loan signing from Watford, headed home in the 23rd minute before turning provider for Gareth Ainsworth to net what proved to be the winner moments later.
Tranmere stunned the visitors early on as McGurk cut in from the left and fired over Nikki Bull from 20 yards but the lead was to last only 18 minutes.
Ainsworth outpaced Rovers defender Mark McChrystal and delivered a pin-point cross from the right for Whichelow to head in.
Seven minutes later Whichelow saw his own cross nearly turned in by David Buchanan and, despite Owain fon Williams' save, Ainsworth pounced to score.
Mustafa Tiryaki and Ian Goodison both had chances for Tranmere after the break and John Welsh hit the bar with a 25-yard free-kick but Wycombe held on to move out of the relegation places.
