Wycombe win with Beavon brace
Stuart Beavon's double helped Wycombe leapfrog fellow strugglers Rochdale and move closer to escaping the League One relegation zone with a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
A goal in each half from the Chairboys' top scorer, who took his tally to 13 in the process, and a third from Dave Winfield ended Wycombe's four-game losing streak in fashion, condemning Dale to a ninth straight game without a win.
Just a point separated the two teams before kick-off. It was the home side who took a deserved lead after 32 minutes when Beavon raced onto Ben Strevens' through ball before chipping over advancing goalkeeper Peter Kurucz.
Rochdale improved after the break but failed to test Nikki Bull in the Wycombe goal. Grant Basey denied Ashley Grimes with a perfectly timed last-ditch tackle.
The home fans were on their feet again after 73 minutes as Beavon grabbed his second, swivelling and firing home on the half-volley into the top corner.
The result was put beyond any doubt just two minutes later when Kurucz failed to claim Matt Bloomfield's corner and captain Winfield stabbed home into an empty net.
