An impressive second-half performance gave Wycombe a deserved 2-0 victory against Peterborough United at Adams Park.
Peterborough were always second best in this early-season promotion battle, with goals from Kevin Betsy and Jermaine Easter doing the damage.
In a slow and scrappy start to the game the first opportunity was created by Peterborough, after five minutes, Danny Crowe slid in a good ball behind the Wycombe defence for Adam Newton but he could only blast his shot straight at Ricardo Batista.
The home side finally created an opening on 28 minutes when the ball fell to Tommy Mooney in the penalty box, from a tight angle he aimed a chip over 'keeper Mark Tyler but his effort was headed over by Ben Turner.
A rejuvenated Wycombe should have taken the lead soon after when Betsy dispossessed Turner in his own box but had his low shot well saved by Tyler.
After waiting so long for a decent chance, Wycombe then had two in the space of a minute in stoppage time, Doherty with the first as his 25-yard shot flashed inches wide of the goal. The next was even better though, as a long ball from Stockley was brought down well by Mooney who blasted his shot wide from only 10 yards.
Wycombe started the second half as they ended the first and Matt Bloomfield went close on 48 minutes. Picking up the ball in his own half and embarking on a mazy run, his eventual shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Tyler.
Oakes then threatened the goal with a decent free-kick from 30 yards that just went over.
Betsy then had a glorious chance after 56 minutes, he raced onto a clever flick-on by Mooney but shot wide when one-on-one with Tyler.
The chances continued to come for Wycombe, Oakes' shot from 20 yards parried by Tyler who then somehow denied Betsy from the rebound.
Betsy redeemed himself minutes later though, tapping home an Anthony Grant low-cross at the near-post for a deserved lead.
Peterborough's reaction was to stick four men up-front but the change done little to affect the game with Wycombe looking dangerous on the counter.
And it was Wycombe who scored the all important next goal after 84 minutes, Jermaine Easter, on his return from injury, blasted in from ten yards after a Russell Martin knock-down.
