Paul Lambert's Wycombe side got back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over a disappointing Grimsby Town outfit.
Grimsby started with a level of confidence that belied their lowly status. However, despite long periods of possession they failed to cause Wycombe goalkeeper Frank Fielding any problems.
Instead, it was Wycombe who have endured their own mini-slump of late, who crafted the first serious chance of the game.
On 12 minutes, Tom Williams was released through the right channel. He showed good vision to find Scott McGleish, but Shaleum Logan's good awareness thwarted the opportunity.
Grimsby responded with a Tom Newey strike on 17 minutes, but he could not keep his 20-yard shot on target.
The Chairboys broke the deadlock on 24 minutes. McGleish was again involved, crossing from the left to the onrushing Gary Holt, who timed his run superbly before planting the ball in the bottom-right corner.
Both sides were content to try and catch each other on the break, much to the consternation of the fans.
The final chance of the half fell to McGleish on 45 minutes. Martin Bullock showed plenty of ingenuity down the right, before delivering to the striker, 10 yards out and in space. However, McGleish was unable to control his shot, screwing his shot wide of the left post.
If the first half failed to inspire, the second period could only be described as positively dull. Both sides showed control and composure in midfield but in the final third simply did not have any imagination.
The first chance of the second half fell to Peter Till on 58 minutes. After good work from Ciaran Toner, Till cut inside on his left foot to blaze high and wide from 20 yards.
Wycombe wrapped up the game on 77 minutes. Phil Barnes could only parry his save to McGleish, who reacted quickest from five yards to stab home.
McGleish doubled his tally in injury time, driving home a penalty after being brought down by Newey.
